The American 40 was an American Automobile equipped with a four cylinder engine that was rated at 40 horsepower. This car was built by The Motor Car Co. of America of New York, New York only in 1911.
The company was purchased by W. H McIntyre of Auburn, Indiana before any serious production got underway. The American was then produced and marketed in Auburn as the McIntyre Special.
