1904 Regas Touring Car Classified as a light Tonneau four passenger automobile with side entrance. To design an acceptable side entrance Tonneau on a 80 inch wheelbase was a big accomplishment by The Regas Automobile Co. They did this by designing the body with either front seat tipping forward and allowing passengers large or small to enter the rear seat Tonneau. This was accomplished without unfastening any bolts, locks or catches of any kind. Hinges at the edge of the front seats allowing them to be tipped forward easily. Steel pins on the bottom entered recesses in the body floor.
Specifications of the Model B Regas include a two cylinder 12 horsepower engine, 80 inch wheelbase, 56 inch tread, artillery wood wheels 28 inches x 3 1/2 inches, elliptic springs, three speed transmission, shaft drive from motor to transmission, chain drive from transmission to rear wheels, hand brake on each drive wheel, Loomis carburetor, Loomis muffler, wheel steering, 14 gallon gas tank, brass side lamps, horn and tools. Optional Marble-Swift friction transmission was available on the 1904 Regas.
Shown above is the 1904 Regas two passenger Runabout Model B with the Tonneau removed exposing a luggage space under lid. This runabout was equipped with all the same two cylinder 12 horsepower engine, body and running gear of the four passenger Tonneau. The Model C not pictured above had the same general appearance as the Model B. The Model C Tonneau was wider, longer and higher, giving ample seating for three passengers. The Regas four cylinder 20 horsepower engine was standard. Wheelbase was 86 inches which was 6 inches longer than the Model B. All other specifications were the same.
Two gasoline engines of the four cycle type mounted crosswise in the Regas in front under the hood was easily accessible. The cylinder sets were V-shaped giving ample room for air to circulate. This unique air cooling feature was more effective than any other American engine. Projecting from each cylinder were 172 perforated coper tubles which served to reduce the heat generated in the cylinders.
