Cannonsburg, PA

The Yenko Stinger was a modified Chevrolet Corvair Corsa or Monza built by Don Yenko of Canonsburg, PA for SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) racing. Don Yenko's father, Frank owned Yenko Chevrolet in Cannonsburg, PA.

Don Yenko was into road racing and drag racing. He wanted to do for the Corvair on SCCA racing circuits what Carroll Shelby did on the drag strip with his mustangs.

Yenko started with 100 Corvair Corsas and modified the 164 cubic inch air cooled six cylinder engines with four different horsepowers of 240, 220, 190 and 160. The Yenko Corvair Corsa or Stinger was very popular in SCCA racing circles.

Don Yenko later went on to build the Yenko Super Camaro, Yenko Duece, Yenko Chevelle, Yenko Super Nova, Yenko Vega Stinger 2) and the Yenko Camaro Turbo Z. None of these Yenko modified automobiles had the handling of the Corvair Stinger. However the Yenko Camaro's, Chevelles, Nova's and Vega's were among the fastest Scca racing cars ever produced.

Total production of the Yenko Corvair Stingers was about 200 units and they could be distinguished by the Stinger emblem shown on the upper right. The location of the Stinger emblem was next to the head light on the drivers side as shown above in this restored Yenko Stinger Corvair Corsa.
