Barley Motor Car Co.
Kalamazoo, MI

Barley Motor Car Co. was a manufacturer of American Automobiles in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It manufactured the Roamer (1916-29), Barley (1922-24) and Pennant (1924-25). The owner was Albert C. Barley. In 1922 Roamer production peaked and Albert C. Barley introduced a cheaper American Automobile named after himself.

The Barley was equipped with a Continental six cylinder engine. Barleys were available as Topedoes and Sedans the first year. A Sport Sedan and a Touring Sedan priced at $1395 to $2250 were available the following year. Production dropped for both the Roamer and Barley in 1924. First production was cut completely for the Barley, then in 1929 production stopped for the Roamer.

When Barley was not successful it was rebranded as the Pennant, equipped with a Buda four cylinder engine and sold as a taxicab. The Pennant's main competitor was the Checker Cab. The Checker Cab also built in Kalamazoo, MI.
