Other 1911 Buicks included the Model 21 five passenger Touring Car, Model 26 Runabout, Model 39 four door Touring Car and Model 41 Limousine. However, 1911 sales were down and some factories were closing. The Bankers running General Motors liquidated all manufacturing except for Cadillac, General Motors Trucks, Oakland, Oldsmobile and Buick.

The Buick was always known as an automobile of great power. In 1912 The Buick Motor Car Co. offered five models priced according to power and size. An example of a 1912 Buick Model 35 shown above was priced at $1,000. Ad a top, glass front and a prest-O-Lite gas tank and it would cost you $60.00 more. Other Buicks included a model 28, 40 and 43. Buick also made trucks in 1912.

1913 Buick Model 40

This 1913 Buick model 40 was priced at $1,659.00. It was equipped with a four cylinder engine rated at 40 horsepower. Wheel base was 215 inches, tread was 56 inches, selective type transmission, three speeds forward and reverse. Body style was a five passenger Touring type.

1914 Buick Model 36b

The 1914 models were confined to three chassis and six styles of bodies. They were equipped with both four and six cylinder engines. Models included the B24 Roadster, B25 Touring Car, B36 Roadster, B37 Touring Car, B38 Coupe and the B55 equipped with a six cylinder.

World War I started in June of 1914 and the U.S. Congress declared war on Germany April 6, 1917. By 1915 World War I had spread all over the world and the United States was producing guns, tanks, ships and airplanes for the Allies, mainly England. The World War was reflected in Buick's advertising as can be seen in the 1915 advertising above. By 1916 Buick advertising switched back to what they did best and that was building the valve in head engine.

Billy Durant and Louis Chevrolet developed the Chevrolet company in 1911. From 1911 to 1916 Durant traded Chevrolet stock to regain control of General Motors and Buick. He succeeded as GM president, Charles W. Nash who at one time was president of Buick. Walter Chrysler was the Buick works manager and Durant promoted him to president of Buick.

1918 Buick Model E-Six-49

The 1918 offering of the Buick automobiles consisted of nine models. These nine models included three Touring Cars, two Roadsters, three enclosed cars and a light commercial car. The 1918 Buick was mounted on two different chassis. One a 118 inch wheel base and a 124 inch wheelbase. Four and six cylinder engines were used in 1918.

In 1911 Buick introduced its first closed body automobile and they were very popular and sales were good on all closed body Buick's in 1919. In addition all 1919 Buick's were equipped with six cylinder. By 1919 Buick was making about half the money that GM earned. From 1909 to 1919, Buick was easily GM's largest selling American Automobile.
