Cole Aero Eight
The Cole Motor Car Co.
Indianapolis, Indiana
1919-1925

Joseph J. Cole, a carriage maker built his first American Automobile in 1909. His company was The Cole Motor Car Co. and it was located in Indianapolis, Indiana. The first automobile was a high wheeler with a 90 inch wheelbase. The 1909 Cole was not very popular. However, Cole had the foresight to know that the automobile would evolve into an every day necessity for men and women.

So in 1910 Joseph Cole built larger and more powerful automobiles with four and six cylinder engines. 1916 was the first year that Joseph Cole used eight cylinder V-type engines. Then in 1919 Cole build his best automobile called The Aero Eight. Production lasted up to 1925 when he closed his company. See the different models below.

It was operated by an automatic regulator and made the Cole Sportosine instantly convertible from a sedan to a limousine. The Cole Tourosine was designed especially for the motorist who wanted a luxurious chauffeur driven, seven passenger enclosed automobile. Like the Sportosine, it can be changed at will into either a formal limousine or a family sedan by means of the the adjustable glass partition.

Sales went down rapidly in 1923 and 1924, mainly because of a short but severe recession. Prices were sharply reduced on the 1923 and 1924 Cole Aero Eight automobiles. Some models were $500.00 lower. New features included low pressure balloon tires, wire wheels, drum type headlights, cowl ventilation and a new type of windshield that opened on the upper half.

Five unique models were produced in 1925. (1) $2,325.00 Cole Westchester Touring, (2) $2,475.00 Cole Aero-Volante Touring, (3) $3,225.00 Brouette Sedan (4) $3,225.00 Royal Sedan and a (5) $3,325.00 Royal Limousine. 1925 Cole specification remained just about the same from 1919 to 1925.

1925 was the last year for the Cole Aero and The Cole Motor Car Co. Sales were declining, competition was on the rise from GM especially Cadillac. Without any major debts Joseph Cole decided to liquidate his company rather than risking his fortune by continuing Cole production. Unfortunately Joseph Cole died suddenly of an infection on August 8, 1925, shortly before liquidation was finished.
