Frederick G. Robie began a career in the early 1900s in his father's bicycle and motorcycle business. However, his interest was in automobiles.

In 1906-1907 Fred Robie designed and built a prototype Cyclecar in Chicago, Illinois. It had a 90 inch wheelbase, 7 1/2 inch ground clearance, 28 inch wheels and a two cylinder four cycle air cooled engine.

A later version had a unique streamline body design with side by side seating. It's wheelbase was 108 inches and weighed 540 pounds. It was equipped with a V-Twin air cooled four cycle engine.

In 1914 it was reported that 565 units were built by The Robie Motor Car Co. in Detroit, Michigan and named after Frederick G. Robie. The Robie was built for sale in England. However, the Robie became a casualty of World War I.
