The Hub Motor Car Exchange
Dorchester, Massachusetts
1906

In the spring of 1906 The Hub Motor Car Exchange purchased the factory of The Crest Manufacturing Company which had discontinued manufacture of American Automobile called the Crestmobile in Dorchester, Massachusetts.

The Hub Motor Car Exchange built an automobile there and claimed it to be very much like the Crestmobile. However, the new Dorchester was a step backwards and not of a progressive runabout design.

The 1906 Dorchester was two passenger Runabout equipped with a single cylinder air cooled engine that was rated at four horsepower. A two speed transmission was used and the final drive was by chain. Cost of the Dorchester in 1906 was $400.00. The Dorchester was especially adapted to the use of physicians and persons requiring a car of simple construction.

The Crest Manufacturing Company should have warned the makers of The Hub Motor Car Exchange about their diminishing sales as Dorchester didn't survive 1906. The company tried again in 1907 with a slightly more powerful, slightly more stylish automobile called the Hub.

We are looking for additional Dorchester automobile photographs or vintage Dorchester advertising for this web page. In the mean time enjoy this E. J. Willis Co. Auto-Log speedometer from a vintage 1907 magazine.
