Edwards' first car was the experimental 1949 Special, a four-seat convertible with a removable hardtop and windshield for racing. Power was supplied by a Ford flathead V-8 equipped with dual Stromberg carburetors, a special overhead-valve cylinder head and a high lift cam. The Edwards developed 115 horsepower and achieved speeds of 155 miles per hour. A second experimental Edwards Sports Car used a light fiberglass body and a Kaiser-Frazer 100 inch chassis. A Chrysler 331 cubic inch 180 HP Himi V-8 provided plenty of muscle.
1953 Edwards America The Edwards America shown above and below was a four passenger sports car, built on a Mercury station wagon chassis. This American Sports Car had a large chrome egg crate grille, 1952 Mercury tail lamps and a deluxe interior that included a leather steering wheel and instrument panel.
1953 Edwards America Of the six Edwards America made two had a 317.5 cubic inch Lincoln V8, three had a 331.1 cubic inch Cadillac V8 and one came equipped with a 303.7 cubic inch Oldsmobile Rocket V8. All had Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels, electric windows, GM Hydromantic transmission and an optional detachable hard top.
