Note that the starting crank is on the left hand side under the seat and that the steering wheel is on the left side. Most American Automobiles used tiller steering. In the advertisement shown below the 1904 Eldredge was "Just What It Ought To Be"
1904 Eldredge Runabout The Eldredge Runabout was equipped with a horizontal mounted air cooled single cylinder engine that developed 8 horsepower. This engine was mounted under the seat. A three speed transmission was used connected to the rear axle by jackshaft and chain drive. It could seat 2 passengers and sold for 750.00.
1905 Eldredge In 1904 The National Sewing Machine Company introduced a five passenger Tonneau, not shown. A Tonneau had rear seat access from rear of the automobile rather than from the side. A horizonial mounted four cylinder engine mounted under the hood developed 16 horsepower. The 1904 Eldredge Touring Car or Eldredge Tonneau was priced at $2,000.00.
