The Argo Electric Vehicle Co.

The Argo Electric Vehicle Company operated in Saginaw, Michigan, from 1912 to 1916. They produced an American Electric car named the Argo. The Argo used Westinghouse motor on a 60 volt system and claimed 20 miles per hour. The Argo had 6 forward and 6 reverse speeds. Speed selection was done with one pedal and this pedal was also the brake.

Other features included a 108 or 110 inch wheelbase, wheel steering, 36 inch wheels and tires, weight 3,200 pounds and MV Exide batteries that lasted over 75 miles per charge. The Argo Electric Car was produced in both open and closed models. Most were four and five passenger electric powered cars

The Argo Brougham shown above was a 4 passenger car with shaft drive, bevel gears, six speeds, Westinghouse motors and sold for $3,000.00. Other models were a four passenger Roadster that was priced at $2,500.00. In addition a five passenger Limousine with 110 inch wheelbase sold for $3,250.00. In 1914, Argo joined with the Broc and Borland electric vehicle companies and in 1916 the Columbia Motors Company purchased the assets of Argo, Broc and Borland.
