The Baker Motor Vehicle Company of Cleveland, Ohio began producing electric automobiles in 1899.

Its founders were Walter C. Baker (Engineer - Case Western Reserve University) and Rollin and Fred White of the White Sewing Machine Company family.

Walter Baker had begun experimenting with electric automobile design in the early 1890s. Baker built the Electrobat Automobile, which became the first Electric automobile to be demonstrated in a public setting in 1893 at the World Columbian Exposition in Chicago. In 1899 Baker became this automobile manufacturer's president and Fred White was vice president and general manager. One of Baker Motor Vehicle Company's most famous customers was Thomas A. Edison.

One of Baker Motor Vehicle Company's earliest electric automobiles was a 1902 Torpedo racer that could reach speeds of more than seventy-five miles per hour. On June 10, 1915, the Baker Motor Vehicle Co. and the Rauch & Lang Carriage Co. announced a merger and the resulting firm was knon as Baker, Rauch & Lang Co.
