1902 German American Runabout The German American Automobile Co. used a four cylinder engine that developed 24 horsepower. An expansion clutch of novel design was used, the transmission had four speeds forward and reverse. Total weight of the German American was 2,600 pounds. A hand brake on the counter shaft lowered the speed by operating a pedal and an emergency expansion brake was applied to each rear wheel.
