1922 Commonwealth Mogul Taxicab The Commonwealth Motors Co. built American Automobiles in Joliet, Illinois and later Chicago, Illinois. In addition they produced a taxicab shown above that ultimately became the famous Checker taxi. The Commonwealth Mogul Taxi cab was equipped with a four cylinder engine that developed 21 horsepower. A selective sliding gear transmission was used that had three speeds forward and reverse.
