The Henderson Motor Car Co.

The Henderson Motor Car Co. of Indianapolis, Indiana was formed by brothers C. P. Henderson and R. P. Henderson in 1912. The Henderson's were former employees of the Cole Motor Car Company. C. P. Henderson served as president, R. P. Henderson as vice-president and Chester Riker was designer.

The first Henderson automobile made its appearance Memorial Day 1912 during the second annual 500 mile race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The 1912 Henderson's were advertised as "Ahead of its Time" and "More Car for Less". 1912 Henderson Motor Car Co. production included a $1,285.00 Henderson Model 44 Roadster and a $1,385.00 Henderson Model 46 Touring Car.

Both Henderson's were equipped with a four cylinder water cooled L-head type engine that developed 44 horsepower. Bore was 4 1/8 inch and stroke was 5 1/4 inches. The Henderson motor had stroke-bore ratio of 1.27. Henderson features included a three speed transmission, 113 inch wheelbase, electric dynamo lights, Schebler carburetor, shaft drive, leather clutch, self starter and luxury equipment.

By 1913 Henderson production included a Model 44 2 passenger Roadster, Model 46 5 passenger Touring Car, Model 48 7 passenger Touring Car and a Model 56 3 passenger Roadster. The same 44 horsepower engine was used in all the 1913 Henderson automobiles.

In 1914 and 1915 Henderson production included a model Light Four, Deluxe Four and a Six. Light Four automobiles included a 5 passenger Touring Car and a 2 passenger Roadster both had a 116 inch wheelbase. Deluxe Four production included a 5 passenger Touring Car, 2 passenger Roadster and a 3 passenger Coupe also on a 116 inch wheelbase. The Model Six production included a 5 passenger Touring Car and 2 passenger Roadster. Both Model Six Henderson's were equipped with a six cylinder 34 horsepower engine and had a wheelbase of 126 inches.

1915 was the last year for The Henderson Motor Car Co. and all company assets were sold. In 1916 the Henderson brothers returned to The Cole Motor Car Company where they were salesman.
