Besides the unconventional wheels, the Ingram-Hatch was equipped with an air cooled four cylinder engine that operated on Kerosene. It also had a double friction drive. A single short shaft went from the engine to a point midway on the chassis. At this point there were double gears with two drive shafts coming out toward the rear. The friction discs were placed on the ends of these shafts and the drive disc were attached to the rear axle.
Ingram-Hatch Chassis and engine. The spring steel wheel spokes were the most publicized features of the revolutionary Ingram-Hatch. Each spoke acted as a spring, made in sections of spring steel and each spoke was carefully tempered. A series of fourteen heart shaped spokes located seven on each side of the hub made up the Ingram wheel. Compressed air cushions between the spokes were designed to help absorb road shock. The leather and steel tires were puncture proof and were advertised to out wear rubber tires. Each tire section could be replaced individually.
