The Mount Pleasant Motor Co.
Mount Pleasant, Michigan

The American Automobile "M. P. M." was built by The Mount Pleasant Motor Co. of Mount Pleasant, Michigan in 1915.

L. J. Lampke of New Jersey established The Mount Pleasant Motor Co. in August 1914. The M. P. M. was an assembled car which means it was made from standard parts readily available from automotive suppliers.

The first M. P. M. was built in November 1914 and on January 13, 1915 The Mount Pleasant Motor Co. was incorporated. By April 1915 the new company established five agencies to sell the M. P. M. automobile.

The first M. P. M. automobiles were equipped with four cylinder engines, four speed transmissions, Remy ignition, electric starter, floating type rear axle and electric lights. The cost of this 112 inch wheelbase M. P. M. was $850.00. In addition to this car production of a 44 horsepower eight cylinder was planned. Selling for $1095.00 this automobile had a 113 inch wheelbase and features common with the four cylinder model.

Money problems began to plague the company during 1915. Only 10 M. P. M.'s were built and sold before The Mount Pleasant Motor Co. went into receivership as addition capital could not be raised.

We are looking for additional M. P. M. automobile photographs or vintage M. P. M. advertising for this web page. In the mean time enjoy this Weed Tire Chain ad from a vintage 1920 magazine.
