In 1909, Marmon changed to a conventional inline four cylinder water cooled engine rated at 40 horsepower. This engine replaced the V-4 24 horsepower air cooled engine designed by Howard C. One interesting feature of the 1910 Marmon was the fact that no wood was used in it's construction except for the mahogany dash, the floor and a thin strip between the frame and the body. All the rest of the body is made of metal. This type of construction did away with entirely with the possibility of shrinking and warping. The consequent that would lead to misfits of doors and seats. At the same time it gave greater strength to body construction.
