The Mason Automobile Co.

Edward R. Mason formed the Mason Motor Car Company in 1906 to produce an American Automobile called The Mason. The designers of the Mason were none other than Fred and August Duesenberg who built the prototype to the Mason in 1905.

Under the Duesenberg brothers guidance the Mason was built from 1906 to 1910 in Des Moines, Iowa. The Mason was succeeded by the Maytag.

The two brothers also designed the Mason engine which was a two cylinder opposed engine with 24 horsepower. The two cylinder Mason-Duesenberg engine was "One of the swiftest and strongest in the world!" according to the 1906 magazine ad below.

In this 1906 Mason Motor Car Co. advertisement the Mason was able to climb the steps of the Iowa State Capitol. A 40 % grade at the Iowa Capitol was toped by a 50 % a the Iowa State Fair in 1910 (see Mason Postcard below). This five passenger Touring Car was priced at $1250.00.

The above 1907 magazine ad is from the Mason Car Sales Co. in Kansas City, Mo. They were a dealer for the Mason automobile. In this ad the Mason was able to achieve "475 Miles on 18 Gallons of Gasoline" or so they claimed. A two cylinder horizontal opposed water cooled 24-28 horsepower engine was used in this 1907 Mason Touring Car. In the ad this Mason was priced at $1350.00 fully equipped.
