The first Rainier was a Touring Car with a four cylinder 22/28 horsepower engine. Then in 1906 Rainier built larger Touring Car with a 104 inch wheelbase and a larger four cylinder engine that had 30/35 horsepower. This model B shown below had a new style "make and break spark", Sims-Bosch Magneto, bevel gear drive and a very large and roomy full aluminum body. In 1907 John T. Rainier moved to Saginaw, MI and organized The Rainier Motor Car Co. He then designed a new range of American Automobiles. In 1908 it was announced four Touring Cars selling at $4,500.00, a Limousine and a Landaulet selling at about $6,000.00. All models were equipped with a four cylinder 45/50 horsepower engine. Rainier's were among the more expensive American Automobiles. They were well thought of and had a good reputation. Rainier's were advertised as "The Pullman Of Automobiles".
1906 Rainier Model B Ad Advertised above as "The Pullman Of Automobiles"! 300 units were planed for the 1908/1909 season but bankruptcy struck due to an economic down turn and only 180 were produced. The Rainier Motor Car Co. operated in receivership until March 1909. At that time The Rainier Motor Car Co. was purchased by William C. Durant who made it part of his new General Motors. Rainier automobiles were continued to be built in Saginaw, MI until 1911. After 1911 it was marketed by Durant as the Marquette, a smaller and cheaper automobile.
