The Rapid Motor Vehicle Co.

The Rapid Motor Vehicle Company was organized in 1902 by Max and Morris Grabowsky. Max and Morris Grabowsky began building American Trucks in 1900, mainly one ton trucks. In 1905 The Rapid Motor Vehicle Company was acquired by Albert North and Harry Hamilton. Albert North and Harry Hamilton also owned The Pontiac Spring & Wagon Works. This company produced an American Automobile called the Pontiac in 1907 and 1908.

The Rapid Motor Vehicle Co. under the direction of Albert North and Harry Hamilton produced many different styles of passenger cars for commercial purposes. Commercial Vehicle produced included 12 passenger Rapid Pullman Passenger Cars, 12 passenger Sight Seeing Cars, 12 passenger Hotel Bus and other vehicles to suit special requirements.

The Rapid Motor Vehicle Co. was the predecessor of the GMC truck. In 1909, General Motors acquired the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company of Pontiac, Michigan. The trade name GMC trucks first appeared in 1912

The ornate stock certificate below was issued by the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company in 1905. Note the signature of president Albert Marx and Secretary Morris Grabowsky and that it was issued to Benjamin D. Marx.
