The first Ri-Chard was a seven passenger Touring Car with a 116 inch wheelbase that had a hood considerably higher than the rest of the body. By 1916 the wheelbase was extended to 137 inches and a nine passenger automobile was built by the Richard Auto Manufacturing Company.
1914 Richard Automobile Mfg. Co. The Ri-Chard automobiles used several different engines from 1914 to 1917. Francois Richard first designed and built a one cylinder engine with a 5 1/8 inch bore and it had a 10 inch stroke. This engine in the Ri-Chard cars were able to attain 82 miles per hour and averaged 42 miles per gallon of gasoline. He next constructed a four cylinder engine with a 4 inch bore and a stoke of 8 15/16 inches. This engine developed 96 horsepower and had a top speed of 80 miles per hour.
Francois Richard Francois Richard shown above is also credited with the construction of a successful eight cylinder 250 horsepower engine. This engine was used in the 137 inch wheelbase nine passenger automobile produced in 1916.
