1904 S & M Simplex Touring Car A 1904 S & M Simplex shown above was also equipped with a vertical four cylinder water cooled engine that developed 18 horsepower. A four speed transmission and double chain drive was used. Features included a 91 inch wheelbase, artillery wheels, room for five passengers and cost $5,500.00.
1905 S & M Simplex Touring Car In 1905 the S & M Simplex Touring Car horsepower was increased to 30 horsepower. This four cylinder engine had a 4 1/2 inch bore and a 5 1/2 inch stroke. Features included a 106 inch wheelbase, jump spark ignition, sliding gear four speed transmission, bevel gear drive, right hand wheel steering. Chassic cost was $5,000.00 and bodies were to order only at additional fee.
1906 S & M Simplex Advertisement A two passenger racing car was also produced in 1906 and it was equipped with a 70 horsepower engine. In 1907 a longer chassis was made with 519 cubic inch four cylinder engine and a four speed transmission. The Smith & Mabley Mfg. Co. went bankrupt in 1907 the firm's assets were absorbed into the Simplex Automobile Co.
