The Hoffman Steam Car was a two passenger with a two cylinder 8 horsepower engine. Final drive was by single chain. The most important feature of this Steam Car was it's flash steam generator. Water entered on one end and superheated steam, containing no moisture exited the other end. The burner was of the Bunsen type.
1903 Hoffman Steam Car The engine of the Hoffman had a three inch bore and a four inch stroke and with 150 pounds of steam pressure developed over 8 horsepower. With 300 pounds of steam pressure the Hoffman steam engine developed 12 horsepower. With super heated steam 15 to 18 horsepower is developed. Total weight of the Hoffman Steam Car was 1200 pounds. Wheels were 30 inches X 3 inches and equipped with Goodyear tires.
The Hoffman Automobile & Mfg. Co. In January of 1903 a gasoline powered American Automobile joined the Hoffman Steam Car line. This car had a 7 horsepower single cylinder engine in a four passenger Tonneau body. The Hoffman Steam Car was produced in 1904 but after that date a newly reorganized company produced the gasoline powered Royal Tourist.
