However, in 1899 A. H. Overman decided to produce a Steam Car he called the Victor. Overman named his Steam Car after the bicycle that he made. Overman sold his Victor Bicycle business to the Stevens Arms & Tool Co. also of Chicopee Falls, MA in 1900. In 1901 A. H. Overman reorganized as The Overman Automobile Co. and the Victor Steam Carriage continued to be built. Only about 50 Victor Steamers were built by 1901. They continued to be made up to 1904 when Overman merged his company with Locomobile.
1899 Victor Steam Carriage Early Victor Steam Cars were equipped with two cylinder vertical engine of 4 horsepower enclosed in an aluminum box. A seamless steel water tube boiler with 425 steel tube flutes produced a working steam pressure of 150 PSI from a cold start. A copper water tank held 15 gallons and five gallons of gasoline. Up to 60 miles could be covered without refill. An interesting feature was a dual purpose air pressure pump which not only supplied fuel to the burner at 150 PSI but could also be used to inflate the tires.
1902 Victor Steam Car This 1902 Victor Steam Car was equipped with a single chain driven vertical twin cylinder 8 horsepower engine capable of doing 32 MPH. The same engine and body style was used from 1901 to 1904 with very little change.
1903 Victor Steam Carriage Getting larger was the 1903 model of the Victor Steam Carriage. Engine, boiler, water tank and gas tank remained the same. Although steam pressure was stepped up to 200 pounds. Prices range from $1,200.00 to $1,400.00.
