The prototype was built in the bicycle factory of the Waltham Manufacturing Co. owned by Charles Metz. There was no connection between these two company's. Another steam car made in Waltham at the same time was the American Waltham.
1901 Waltham Steam Car American Automobiles used tires from Tire Company's like The Beacon Tire Company of Beacon, NY and The Ajax Rubber Co. of New York City. The Beacon Tire Company produced a "Beacon Red Seal Cord" tire. The Ajax Rubber Co. made the "Ajax Cord" tire. The Beacon tires cost $15.72 for a 30 inch tire up to $47.17 for a 35 inch tire.ad
