![]() 1904 Sturtevant Automatic Touring Car Sturtevant's were large automobiles with a wheelbase of 120 inches. They were equipped with either a four cylinder or six cylinder engine. The price of either the Touring Car or the Flying Roadster was about $3,500.00. The Sturtevant three passenger Flying Roadster shown below used an early version of the popular rumble seat.
![]() 1907 Sturtevant Flying Roadster The simi-automatic transmission used a driving button that was located on the incline floor board. As you pressed down on the button the engine shaft started turing. When the shaft and low speed clutch turned fast enough, weights on the outer rims of the clutch would move out, engaging the clutch to drive the car forward. The more you pressed the faster the shaft would turn and the more postive the cluitch became engaged. When the low speed slutch capacity was reached the high speed clutch would kick in leaving the low speed mechanism to turn freely on the shaft.
