The White was equipped with a two-cylinder opposed air cooled four cycle unit, set crosswise of the steel frame. The engine was mounted under the hood rather than under the seat. The friction transmission used was of the two speed planetary gear type. From this a shaft drive enclosed in a tube serving as a torsion rod provided power to the rear axle. 1902 White Buggy Advertisement George O. White first produced carriages in Greenville, Pennsylvania. In 1886 George White moved to Moline, Illinois to take over the management of the J. H. Wilson Moline Buggy Co. They were manufacturers of buggies, wagons, phaetons and surreys. In 1891 George White and others organized the Rock Island Buggy Company. George White left The Rock Island Buggy Company in 1896 and formed The George White Buggy Co. By 1899 The George White Buggy Co. was producing 3,000 buggies per year. In 1909 this company produced an American Automobile mention above. By 1915 The George White Buggy Co. was producing tops, door and side curtains for Ford automobiles.
