After many years attempting to produce an American Automobile called the Benton Harbor in Michigan and Chicago, William O. Worth built the Worth Automobile in Kankakee, Illinois.

During the 1890s, William Worth received several United States Patent's for a friction drive, tiller steering, speed controls and a all steel automobile frame. He also had experience with steam driven vehicles.

In November 1907, William Worth formed the Worth Motor Car Mfg. Co. along with his brother John Worth. Some reports have the company listed as the John Worth Automobile Company.

The 1,400 pound Worth was made as a two passenger or four passenger vehicle and were of the high wheeler design. The Worth was equipped with a 12 horsepower air cooled two cylinder engine mounted beneath the body. Power was delivered to the rear wheels by a friction drive transmission and double chain drive.

The business at Kankakee was never really a large scale production. Once again William Worth was in financial trouble. The Internation Motor Car Manufacturing Company also of Kankakee took over operation.
