Worthington Bollee

The Worthington Automobile Co. of New York, NY sold this French made automobile. However the automobile was slightly modified for sale in the United States. It was equipped with a four cylinder engine that developed 28 horsepower. In addition the car had a sliding gear transmission, was shaft driven.

The 1904 Worthington Bollee was a side entrance Touring Car with a 100 inch wheelbase. In 1905 The Worthington Automobile Co. merged with the Berg Automobile Co. of Cleveland.

The first Bollee was a four-wheel car with independent suspension built in 1903 and it was very similar to the Worthington Bollee featured above. It was available in a 28 or 45 horsepower four cylinder engine. 28 horsepower engines were shipped in cars sent to U.S. from France.

The first gasoline powered Bollie was a two passenger tricycle built in France by Leon Bollie. It had a three cylinder three horsepower engine. His father built steam cars as early as 1873 in France.
