Ezra E. Kirk appears to be the driving force behind The Kirk Mfg. Co. starting in 1895 when he began producing bicycles. By 1901 The Kirk Mfg. Co. was involved in the manufacturer of The Yale automobile, The Yale Motorcycle and The Yale Bicycles. Including other items such as Hussey handle bars, drop forgings etc. From the advertising shown below The Yale was always manufactured by The Kirk Manufacturing Co. of Toledo, Ohio In the 1901 Yale magazine advertising on the right is a four passenger Touring Car equipped with a 12 horsepower engine. This Yale Touring Car sold for $1750.00 and called "A Happy Medium".
1903 Yale Touring Car This 1903 Yale magazine ad has some interesting claims such as "The Yale Starts and Stops In The Flash of a Second" and "It Responds Instantaneously to the Touch of the Driver" and "It is Not Afraid of Rough Roads, Steep Hills and Hard Climbs" and one more "It is Speedy, Strong and Safe and Above All it is Simple".
1905 Yale Runabout This 1905 Yale Runabout was equipped with a 14-16 horsepower engine and was priced at $800.00. Advertising claim "The Best and the Biggest Value the Year has Produced".
1905 appears to be the last year The Yale was produced. That year they offered two American Automobiles. One priced at $1,100.00 and was equipped with a 14-16 horsepower two cylinder engine. The other was priced at $2,500.00 and it had a four cylinder engine that was rated at 24-28 horsepower.
1909 Yale Motorcycle In 1904 The Consolidated Mfg. Co. began to manufacturer Motorcycles called the Yale-Californias and Snell-California. Prior to 1904 these motorcycles were produced by the California Motor Company in San Francisco and called the California. When this company moved to Toledo, OH in 1904 it moved into a factory located at 1710 Fernwood Ave. and not the Yale automobile factory located at 920 Oakwood Ave. The Yale Motorcycle also produced the Yale and Snell bicycles.
