Anderson Carriage Manufacturing Co.
Anderson, IN

The Anderson Carriage Manufacturing Company was an established manufacturer of buggies and carriages in Anderson, IN from 1907 to 1910.

Its founder, George B. Wheelock, produced an American Automobile called simply the Anderson.

When George B. Wheelock turned his attention to the manufacture of horseless carriages in 1907 he built a typical High Wheeler Buggy. One with 36 inch solid tires and another model with smaller pneumatic tires. Prices were $500.00 to $650.00. The engine used in the Anderson was an air cooled 14 horsepower two cylinder DeTamble engine.

The Anderson Carriage Manufacturing Company's history is typical of the fiercely competitive market of the automobile manufacturing field at the turn of the century. When George B. Wheelock began the manufacture of automobiles, he entered uncharted territory and a fiercely competitive market. Throughout 1908 and into 1910, business was generally favorable. However, within a few months he lost control of his company, which was placed into receivership.
