During the Great Depression Studebaker struggled with a feeble economy and buyers fears. However the 1931 Studebaker Commander Eight was one of the best American Automobiles ever produced by The Studebaker Corporation. This 1931 Studebaker Commander Eight was well built, fast and good looking.

The Commander with a six cylinder was dropped for 1931. The straight eight had its horsepower increased from 80 to 101. The larger straight engine was the only Studebaker engine equipped in the Commander.
