Argo Cyclecar
The Argo Motor Co.
Jackson, MI

Built in Jackson, MI, the Argo was a popular American Cyclecar. This Cyclecar was built by the Argo Motor Co. and was owned by Benjamin Briscoe. Briscoe had a well equipped factory in Jackson, MI, an efficient organization and was an American Manufacturer of other products. The factory had been previously used by the Standard Electric Car Co to build an electric car.

The Argo Motor Co. originally made their Cyclecar with a four cylinder 12 horsepower engine. Benjamin Briscoe called his Cyclecar the Motorvique. Very few Argo Cyclecars were sold in the United States, and in 1916, it was replaced by an American Automobile called "The Argo Standard". The Argo Standard was up against stiff completion from Ford and others, so in 1917 the company was sold to Mansell Hackett. Hackett moved the Argo plant to Jackson, MI then changed it's name to the Hackett.

The above announcement was a print ad in a vintage magazine by Smith Motor Sales Co. In 1916 the Argo Cyclecar was replaced by a conventional 2 passenger roadster and a 5 passenger touring car. The most interesting part is the last line. "If you're considering any car under $1,000.00, come in." As you can see the 2 passenger roadster sold for $385.00. A 5 passenger touring car sold for $435.00. The 17 1/2 horsepower was available with electric starting for an additional $60.00.
