The Dragon Motor Co.

The Dragon Automobile Co. then The Dragon Motor Co. built American Automobiles in Philadephia, PA from 1906 to 1908. A two passenger Roadster and a five passenger Touring Car sold for about $2,000.00. The designer of the Dragon was a French automobile engineer with experience in motor car construction.

The Dragon was a strong car, a speedy car, a reliable car and a car to count on in every detail of design, construction and performance. The son of Tramcar builder J. G. Brill was the maker of the Dragon. The last models were a very sporty runabout. Touring car were mainly sold as Taxi Cabs.

The Dragon used a four cylinder water cooled engine that delivered 24-26 horsepower to the rear wheels by shaft drive. Engine features include - cylinders that were 4 inch x 4 1/2 inch, three piece crankshaft, engine valves on opposite sides of cylinders, self regulating centrifugal oil pump and jump spark ignition. Transmission was a sliding gear type. The Dragon had double acting hub brakes - external contracting and internal expanding.

The Dragon Automobile Co. had a large factory at 30th, 31th and Chestnut St. in Philadephia. With dealers in New York City, Chicago, Boston, Pittsburg, San Francisco, Toronto and Montreal. A name change to The Dragon Motor Co. occurred in 1908 and later production stopped due to an economic down turn at that time. Note the price change to $1850.00 in the early 1908 ad below.
