The Dayton Electric was initially incorporated in 1911 as The Dayton Electromobile Company and a name change occurred soon thereafter. The Dayton Electric Car Co. then went on to produce this American Automobile up to 1915 when it went bankrupt.

J. L. Baker of Dayton was the owner of this company. Baker was a master craftsman in the field of carriage making for over 30 years. He had formed an organization of thoroughly experienced business men with a staff of competent engineers, backed by ample capital.

1911 Dayton Electric specifications include a 80 or 86 inch wheelbase, 32 inch artillery wheels, double chain or shaft drive, six forward speeds and three reverse, steering was by a lever (tiller) or wheel.

The Dayton Electric was capable of 5 to 22 miles per hour and could travel almost 100 miles before the Exide or Edison batteries need charging. The motor used was a Westinghouse.
