In 1938 The Ford Motor Co. adopted a new market plan for their vehicles. 1938 Standard automobiles carried the same basic front body style used on the 1937 Ford while the Deluxe body styles were given a substantially revised appearance.

All Deluxe and some Standard body styles equipped with the powerful 85 horsepower V-8 engines an were designated as the Ford Model 81A.

The Standard body styles equipped with the 60 horsepower V-8 and designated as the Ford Model 82A. 1938 Ford production for both the Model 81A and 82A was 410,048 units.

The Standard Ford grille featured horizontal bars that extended into the side region for engine cooling. Only three Standard body styles were offered on the 38 Ford. They include the $710.00 4 door 5 passenger Fordor Sedan shown above, a $665.00 2 door 5 passenger Tudor and a $625.00 2 door 2 passenger Coupe. The same three Standard body styles equipped with the larger V-8 were designed as a Model 81A.

The Deluxe Ford featured a curved grille outline with horizontal bars and a separate set of side hood louvers. The 1938 Ford Deluxe interiors consisted of a new instrument panel with centrally located radio speaker grille and recessed control knobs.

1938 Ford Convertibles consisted of a $770.00 2 door 3 passenger Coupe shown above, a $800.00 2 door 5 passenger Club Coupe and a $900.00 4 door 5 passenger Convertible Sedan shown below. All Model 81A Deluxe body styles were equipped with a 85 horsepower engine, sliding gear 3 speed transmission, shaft drive and 3/4 inch floating rear axle.

Additional 1938 Deluxe Fords included a Station Wagon shown below, Phaeton and Sedan Delivery. 1938 Ford options available were fender skirts, bumper guards, radio, clock, rear view mirror, side view mirror, glove box, dual wipers and fog lights. The 1939 Ford Model 91A and Model 922A cars and trucks followed the 1938 Fords.
