The Harrison Wagon Works made sleighs, farm and freight wagons beginning in 1852. The Harrison Wagon Company of Grand Rapids, MI began in August of 1904 to build American Automobiles.

The Harrison was originally designed by A. C. Menges and named after William Harrison. The first Harrison automobile was a Runabout shown below. It had a 94 inch wheel base and a two cylinder engine mounted under the seat. Steering was by tiller, three speed transmission and final drive was by chain.

The 1906 Harrison Model B Touring Car had a wheel base of 115 inches with 36 inches wheels. It had a side entrance body seating seven passengers. The model B eventually became a very large automobile with 120 inch wheelbase that sold for nearly $5,000.00. That price included a cape top, storm curtains, mats, horn, tools and five lamps.

Most Harrison automobiles were equipped with a vertical four cylinder engine. A unique feature was a self starting system which introduced acetylene into the proper cylinder for starting by spark. Transmission was a sliding gear type with three forward and reverse.
