The James H. Lancaster Co.

1899-1901

The Lancamobile was an early American Automobile built by James H. Lancaster of New York in 1899. It was also called The Lancaster Carriage after the maker. The Lancamobile steering and speed mechanism was by tiller or stick. This early body style was called a "vis-a-vis". Which was a four passenger automobile with two passengers facing the driver.

Shown below is the passenger seat under the date 1900. The internal combustion engine was a small single cylinder of unknown horsepower or make that could run on gasoline or kerosene. By only one lever the ingenious and efficient speed gearing was capable of four varing rates of forward speed and reverse.
