The George White Buggy Co.
Rock Island, Illinois

In 1909 one of the largest buggy manufacturers, the George White Buggy Company, Rock Island, Illinois, established an automobile department. The Buggy company was started by George O. White in 1897.

The White was an American Automobile of the High Wheel type with solid tires produced in 1909 only. Four models are listed, differing only in the body work.

The White was equipped with a two-cylinder opposed air cooled four cycle unit, set crosswise of the steel frame. The engine was mounted under the hood rather than under the seat. The friction transmission used was of the two speed planetary gear type. From this a shaft drive enclosed in a tube serving as a torsion rod provided power to the rear axle. The solid type wheels used on the White had a large diameter, 36 front and 38 rear.

We are looking for White automobile photographs or vintage White advertising for this web page. In the mean time enjoy this 1902 White Buggy advertisement and another advertisement for products made by The George White Buggy Co. in 1915.
